Our History
In 2009, the major Washington Municipality was at the end of their Pharmacy Benefit Management contract with CVS Caremark. Seeking a solution for rapidly increasing costs, their consultant discovered a group of large employers in the Midwest that had joined together to leverage their purchasing power. The Employers Health Coalition of Ohio, with 400 employers and $1.5 billion annual drug spend, comprising one of the largest drug purchasing blocks in the U.S. Joining EHC of Oregon and Washington a resulted in a reduction of 17% in rx costs, a savings of $370k in year one.
In 2010, EHC of Oregon and Washington was incorporated as a nonprofit (501-C-6) in order to provide Washington employers with access to this advantaged purchasing channel.
In 2019, we expanded into Oregon and created the EHC of Oregon.
